SUNDY BEST

Hailing from the Appalachian foothills of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Sundy Best is a country duo that has become a cornerstone of the modern Kentucky music scene. Formed by lifelong friends Nick Jamerson (lead vocals/guitar) and Kris Bentley (cajón/vocals), the pair grew up together playing in church and starring in college sports—Jamerson in football and Bentley in basketball—before turning their full attention to music in 2010.

The duo is best known for their “stomping back-porch” sound, which avoids traditional drum kits in favor of Bentley’s rhythmic cajón, a box-shaped percussion instrument. Their music is a raw, high-energy blend of several genres including Country, Bluegrass, Appalachian Folk, 70s Rock (influenced by the Eagles and Tom Petty), and even elements of Soul and R&B.

Sundy Best gained a massive regional following through their residency at Redmon’s in Lexington and eventually reached national acclaim. Their big breakthrough came in 2013 when the video for “Home” went into heavy rotation on CMT, leading to a multi-album deal with Entertainment One. Their discography includes key albums such as Door Without a Screen (2012), Bring Up the Sun (2014)—which hit #11 on the Billboard Country charts—and Salvation City (2014). Over the years, they have graced the stages of the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium, and major festivals like Austin City Limits.

In 2018, the duo announced a hiatus to pursue solo projects, during which time Jamerson established himself as a prominent solo artist with his band, The Morning Jays. However, the “Kinfolk” (their dedicated fan base) were thrilled when the pair reunited in 2020. They officially marked their comeback with the 2023 album Feel Good Country, proving their creative chemistry remains as strong as their Eastern Kentucky roots.

Solidifying their status as Appalachian legends, Sundy Best was officially honored by the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026. This induction serves as a testament to their influence on the Commonwealth’s rich musical heritage and their role in bringing the unique sounds of Eastern Kentucky to a national audience.
